Virechan for vitiated Pitta

Virechan is the one among prime procedures among Panchakarma and it involves purgation. Panchakarma therapies in Ayurveda are known to remove the diseases from its roots and prevent its reoccurrence.

 In one way it may be consider as a typical stimulation given to the body for cleanup whole metabolic system and to make it work properly. Acharaya Charak has clearly said that Virechan karma process helps in improving the intellectual clarity ,strengthens all sense organs, provide stability to dhatu(tissues),bala (energy ),cause Agni Dipti (improve metabolism)and delay aging process.

There is beautiful example given by Acharya “By removal of water, how all water dwelling creatures get destroyed in same way by removal of vitiated Pitta all Pitta relate problems gets vanish. 

Condition in which Virechan can be taken is: 

  • As Seasonal Detoxification/Purification In Sharad Ritu ( during September, October, November Month)
  • Chronic Fever
  • Skin Diseases
  • Skin Rashes
  • Skin allergies
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Artificial Poisoning
  • Burning Eyes
  • Gout
  • Depression
  • Skin Related Issues
  • Pimples
  • Migraine
  • Psoriasis
  • Constipation
  • Asthma 
  • Seasonal Detoxification
  • Recently Diagnosed Diabetic

Virechan is the purificatory process which can be given in two ways:

1. Nitya virechan 

2. Proper virechan 

Nitya Virechan – It’s a type of mild virechan which can be done on daily-basis at home for specific numbers of the days according to health condition. Follow up is must.

Proper Virechan –Its intense purificatory process for vitiated Pitta /Pitta related problems which need 10-15 days that include –

  1.  Consultation and Examination of the individual for:

Prakruthi (Body constitution), Vikruti(Abnormality), Satva(state of mind), Satmya(likes and dislikes), indicated /contraindicated and Ama(toxins in body).

  1. Ama pachan and preparing individual for sneha pana.
  2. Snehapana(consumption of medicated ghee/oil).
  3. Bahaya snehan by abhyanga and swedan (body massage and body steam).
  4. Consumption of food which increase Pitta.
  5. Performance of drug inducing purgation.
  6. Specific diet intake according to level of purification.
  7. Incorporating Rasayan therapy.

Verse from Ashtamgahridaya (Su.18-59):

“Buddiprasadnam balamindriyanam, dhatusthiritvam jvalanasyadipnam

Chirachpakam vayaskaroti.”

“A proper virechan ends up with intellectual clarity, strength to body organs, elemental stability, glow to digestive fire and it delays ageing.”
