Vaman is a purificatory process intended mainly for the expulsion of vitiated kapha dosha. This is a painless, drug-induced emetic process. Vamana is first among the five detoxifying cleansing therapies broadly known as shodhana therapies.

Steps to complete Vaman process:
- Examination of the individual for:
Prakruthi (Body constitution), Vikruti(Abnormality ), Satva(state of mind), Satmya(likes and dislikes), indicated /contraindicated and Ama(toxins in body).
- Ama pachan and preparing individual for sneha pana.
- Snehapana(consumption of medicated ghee/oil).
- Bahaya snehan by abhyanga and swedan (body massage and body steam).
- Consumption of food which increase Kapha.
- Performance of drug inducing vomiting.
- Specific diet intake according to level of purification.
- Incorporating Rasayan therapy.
