It is a process in Panchakarma where in herbalised oils administered through the nostrils. Since nose is the gate way of the head the therapy is highly effective in curing a number of diseases pertaining to the head, the therapy cleans and opens the channels of the head and neck, thereby improving the process of oxygenation (Paraná) which has direct influence on the functioning of the brain.
The nose is the nearest opening to reach the brain. Nasya is a special therapy which could be a part of our daily rituals too, when we instilled just 2drops of oil in to each nostril at any time of the day, according to comfortability! is called Pratimarsha Nasya in Panchakarma.

Steps in Nasya process
- First a Detailed massage has to be given over head, face, neck followed by steam to face, forehead, head, ears and neck. It helps to loosen the adhesive Doshas and prepare the vital organs for purificatory process.
- Next step of Nasya includes instillation of warm medication in both the nostrils, alternately, with the help of proper instrument like dropper. Then the sole, shoulder, neck, ear and palm are gently massaged after the administration of the drug.
- Now mouth is cleaned by giving warm water to gargle and then medicated smoke is given for inhalation.
